99%  of CHT  T/C's are Alumel / Chromel  wire....approx. 20 ga.    very 
robust!

If you damage the "ring"......just a Seth mentioned....re-crimp into another 
"ring"

The only  stipulation is that the ENDS of the wires CROSS / Touch.......but 
NOWHERE else!......where they touch is where the millivolts are produced in 
accordance with temperature.....
