If the inner gasket is not making a seal, the oil (at least some of it) is 
bypassing the filter element - not actually going THROUGH the filter - just 
passing across the top of it.  If you crank down the mounting bolt hard 
enough to get that inner gasket to seal (the spec calls for 15 - 20 ft. lbs 
and it will likely take more than that) you run the risk of splitting that 
outer, U shaped gasket - and will then have a leak to the outside of the 
filter.  It has already happened to several folks on this list.

I understand that at one time the PF4s were supplied with a paper gasket for 
the outer edge.  If you had a supply of those, you could probably discard 
the U gasket and use those.  NOTE - I've NOT tested this theory.

Attachments (if any) are scanned with anti-virus software.
