<VV>Torque converter slip

Observation indicates it is more. I have three 3800/4T60 vehicles and when 
the TCC (lockup) engages at 50-60 mph/light load, the rpm drops from 1800 
to 1300, is about like having another gear. Is the Corvair torque converter 
that much tighter ?
