As there is nothing else then "euro" headlights available around here
without overseas shipping and customs, and as they are needed for being
street legal anyway, I asked local Corvair owners for working headlights:

EM: Marchal (France) EQULUX nr 143
LM: CEBIE HCR, E4 420, H4 IODE, SAE M7, DOT E2 20, 29
EM/LM: Hella 4414 E1
LM (old installation): Hella, 14468 R1

and for my wagon finally settled for:
EM (without parking lights, round surface) Bosch 0 301 302 100 - 730

If it fits EM, it should fit LM too (more space).

As Seth already mentioned, I also heard from oldtimers that old 3-series
BMW were a common replacement.
