Your guesswork is over, boys and girls.  I have found a differential
assembly drawing 3855494 that shows the two stub axle retaining bolts
3855648 and 3855649.  The torque is specified as 30-40 lbs.ft.
I have to admit I just run 'em in with my airwrench at about 80 lbs.ft. and
have never had a problem.  Ignorance is bliss!
