But why?  The simple holdup rods you speak of are quite 
inferior to the stock Corvair system -- with one hand you 
need to jockey around with the prop rod to find the 
engagement while holding the hood up with the other hand. 
The Vair system system is simpler and better; just slide it 
up until the catch engages. I can't see it weighing any more 
either...

I'm all for dinking with things where GM cheaped out or 
there are better solutions, but why adopt the inferior just 
to be different?
