Well this is a lively discussion, will it accomplish anything? Probably not.
Now my opinions..............
I for one over the years have recruited a fair amount of people to join
Corsa, as well as our local chapter. That said, I would also point out that
I know in my immediate area another dozen or so Corvair owners who I have
approached, and have turned me down soundly.
One fellow, who's car I work on occasionally thinks the local Chapter is a
bunch of drunks because we go to a cruise night where alcohol is served. He
has no use for Corsa either.
Several people, including one guy who owns 3 vairs wants to know what
benefits he personally will derive. When I point out benefits, he
disagrees...........he is quite full of himself.
One person hates Corsa, I can only surmise somehow he was offended at one
time (imagine that!)
Several are simply not joiners.
I even ran across a Chevy dealership trying to restore a Corvair for the
dealerships owner, they were referred to me as they were trying to restore
the car with parts only from the GM system, and found availability lacking.
They had not heard of Clarks, Underground or anyone else. Did they join the
local Chapter and Corsa after I helped them out.........No!
I ran across another guy who is right out there in left field, quite a
character, he gives the wife the creeps........we both decided not to
recruit him.
None of these people would have exactly made good candidates for membership
anyways..........just getting the dues money doesn't make a person a good
member of the group.
As far as paying a recruiter...........forget it, not cost effective.
I personally feel the communique is fairly decent considering it is
comprised of articles written by amateurs, myself included.
As far as chapter news goes, thanks for the insult, I write those
occasionally............try to use it as a sales tool to recruit more
participation for the next year, and I always tried to make it a "better"
read.
I went to an all clubs local show scheduling meeting lately. Discussion
revolved somewhat around the fact that an average street rodder is 58 years
old. People who once loved model A's in their original form are few and far
between, anyone looking to buy one of those now sees them as rod material.
So what does this look like for future Corvair owners........
I myself used to subscribe to 20 car magazines, found I was buying magazines
and not reading them. I always did manage to read the communique though.
I am also a member of too many organizations, one of which, Mensa, raised
it's dues again. I'm not renewing, I don't attend any of their events, and
barely read a part of their magazine..........$35 for Corsa is fair, $30
would be better in the long run as everyone is doing some belt tightening
and making choices.
I am involved with other car clubs as well, and even with $20-$25
memberships, people join for a year, then quit.
Sorry for the long post..........................
