There is differing opinion on putting on bondo on bare metal or on EPOXY
primer. Both work but recent tests on autobody forum indicate bondo sticks
better on bare metal. There are advantages and disadvantages of both
methods. I find that is is harder to work the bondo on top of the epoxy
primer and you have to prime over the bondo again. No big deal. One
advantage of epoxy priming first is that you cover the bare metal and keep
it from rusting while you are putting on the bondo. If you are like me,
sometimes that takes a long time. I like to do a panel and get it done or
primed and move on to another panel. Paint companies recommend putting on
the epoxy first. Bondo companies say it isn't necessary. I still put the
bondo on bare metal. It is how I am used to doing it.
