<VV> convertible question

GASP! OK, boys get a rope. This Mark guy's abusing his convertible. ;-)

I've been driving the same convert for 25 years. It's on it's second top,
and the window is not what caused me to re-top it 15 years ago. I've found
that there are 3 rules.

1) Keep the window clean. Clean it with a soft cloth while running water
over it. Never, never, never, never, never, rub it with something merely
damp. Dirt is abrasive.
2) Don't run it up and down every day. The vast majority of the wear comes
during transitions.
3) Don't wait until it's 25 degrees one morning to decide to put it up. I
haven't shattered a cold, brittle window on the Corvair, but I have on other
cars. Maybe the newer window materials are better in the cold. They're
certainly less prone to yellowing.

Mine stays down all summer and most of the winter, so, in Austin it's almost
always down. If it's below 45 or raining in the morning, I drive my spare
car. Basically, the only time it goes up is if it's raining when I leave
work (I'm blessed with covered parking). Last time I saw it the window was
in great shape.
