Sorry Eric I misunderstood you.  I took mine out of the car (the arm has nuts 
that allow you to unbolt it from the cranks on the wiper post.  I cleaned my 
posts in a solvent, blew them dry and used a PTFE spray lubricant (what your 
wife calls Teflon) to soak the shaft and sleeve.  Work the lubricant in until 
the shaft moves easily.  I don't use a petroleum here because of the dirt that 
would accumulate.  I was afraid to dissamble the units because the head the 
wiper arm slips over looks like pot metal that is easily broken.  By the way, if 
you don't have a nifty specialty tool to lift the wiper arm off the post a 
large table spoon (with something soft under it to protect the paint) is still 
one of the nicest tools.
