Harry,  I agree on the EB cable and heater hoses.  Amazing how much current 
is available from a batter when it has a direct short.

Though I never definitively figured it out, I also had an alternator that 
would play through the radio (you could hear the brushes as the alternator wound 
up) when all the ground straps were broken.  I was doing "mercy repairs" on a 
friends "new" Corsa at the time.
