NO! Use good quality oil always, and that includes engine break-in
periods. Always. Avoid nondetergent oil in ANY internal combustion
engine, *Particularly* any engine that's rough on oil, and Vair engines ARE
rough on engine oil.

That nondetergent oil myth is just that. Moly rings seat quicker... so
I'd maybe use a break-in oil that I expected to change soon... like around
500 miles later. So don't start off with synthetic oil right out of the
chute... use a good grade of dino oil, change it after 500 miles, then
change it again after about 100 miles, then go with the best.

Works for me. Others may have a different policy.

Nondetergent oil has its use and purposes, but it's not in internal
combustion engines. Pumps/compressors, gearboxes, etc maybe... but NOT in
an engine.

Hell, it's not good for ANYTHING in a modern engine, especially the
bearings.

I'd certainly not run nondetergent oil in ANY Vair engine under any
circumstances unless it was an emergency etc and even then I'd change it,
soon as possible. I'd sure as death & taxes not wanna run it in a fresh
overhaul, where the engine is particularly vulnerable to lube issues.
