According to what I've heard, the fuel pump has failed internally and is
pumping fuel into the case...

Look out for hasty "Buy it Now" decisions on EBAY. Someone appears to have
put aftermarket bearings in with some used NOS bearing boxes and is using a
low Buy it Now price to make one act on impulse. Quite crafty if I say so
myself... Anyway, the bearings advertised do not look like NOS Hyatt
bearings
that I have seen but judge for yourself and look at your old bearing first!.
Don't be a victim of fraud!!!!

I didn't see the program in question but I've read the story. It was in the

Dallas Morning News, years ago. I book-marked it but it's not there now.
She
ran a stop sign in a full-size '63 Chevy (the year it happened was also '63)

and T-boned a Corvair driven by, ironically, her boyfriend. Killed him. No

citation was issued.

Snip-----------------------
I've ran into a problem with my daily driver '65 Monza, it has a 110 and a
PG BTW. For the last couple of days my car has been leaving soot on the
driveway from the exhaust. Over the weekend, I was driving home from a
friend's house and I noticed the car was running a little rough.....
.....So I drained the oil and found that there was actually gas in the oil
(a lot). I've had this problem before on another engine with a blown power
valve on a Holley. My question to all of you is what would be causing all of
this gas to get into the oil.
Unsnip---------------------

Nick,

Failed mechanical pump will dump gas in the oil. Also, if a float sunk in
one of the carbs (do you have stock carbs or the Holley?), it would allow
the needle valve to stay open, causing rough running (overly rich) and dump
so much gas through the intake it could get past the rings and fill your oil
pan. Finally, if the needle valve is loose, as in valve body not tight in
carb top, you could have the same condition.

If you want to get REALLY fancy, get some Grade 12 bolts with the 12 point
heads. <G> Not sure of there's clearance, but they sure are strong! <G>

I recently replaced a rear hub and did an engine removal/reinstall on my
'65. It had the original 1/4" grade 8 bolts. Instead of the wheels being
towed in, they were towed out. I attached the 1/2 shafts and planned on
pulling the wheels in as I tightened the yokes on the U-Joints. Using a
tiny 1/4" hand wrench, I ended up breaking off one of the bolts in the
differential without any huge effort and I had to drill it out. I ended up
purchasing new grade 8 bolts from my FLAPS (they were cheep...don't
remember, but less than $.20 apeice). Local Corvair mechanic Bob Bauer
rigged up a cool come-a-long contraption to pull the wheels together this
second time, and everything went together fine, but I can't help but think
that bolt should not have sheared off that easily. It must have been
fatigued from 40 years and 70,000+ miles of use. IMO anyone doing the
U-Joint yokes with original hardware should replace the bolts with new grade
8 bolts...costs little but could save a l!

Yes it is true. Just type "Laura Bush accident" into Google and a dozen
variations of the story are just a mouse click away. The guy was Michael
Dutton Douglas also aged 17 and he was driving a 1962 Corvair sedan. He
apparently broke his neck in the accident which occurred on the night of
November 6, 1963. However, it wasn't a stop light, but a stop sign.

Subject: <VV> Ultimate Carb Set-up

Hi Darrin,

The price in the 1995-1998 Clark's Catalog / 1998 Price list was $1250.
This
was for everything needed including new Holley carbs and air cleaners. The
carbs were for a Ford 2000 or 2300cc engine and were progressive.
(primary/secondary)

I bought a Greenbrier with a different (I believe) setup with a 140 engine.

The setup I have has Offenhauser manifolds. The secondary intakes on the
140
were capped. I do not think that these manifolds were part of the Clark's
setup but I am not certain. The reason for this is that the lengthy Clark's

description does not mention Offy manifolds nor do the manifolds show up in
any of
the pictures. Also, the setup in the Greenbrier required that the engine
cover be removed for everything to fit. The description in Clark's says
that the
system would fit in all FCs without a problem. The only issue in cars is
the
spare tire in EMs.

The previous owner of the Greenbrier told me that the 140 / dual two bbl
setup ran like a scalded cat. However, I cannot attest to this because the
engine
had a dropped valve seat when I bought it and I never saw it running.
According to the PO, he ran the engine on regular gas and couldn't hear the
pinging
because of all the noise from the open engine compartment. I do not know
what, if any difference in performance there was between the "Offy" system
and
Clark's system. Also, I am not certain if my carbs are the same as in the
Clark's setup. I do not know which setup is up for auction on eBay. Maybe
someone
else has this info. I hope this helps.

I will be returning both my Greenbrier and Rampside to relatively stock
condition and both my cars are turbos so I don't need this setup. If anyone
is
interested in buying my system, please make me an offer I can't refuse. The

carbs have been sitting for years and will probably need to be rebuilt.
Everything else including the air cleaners are there. They are packed away
but if
memory serves me the air cleaners need to be cleaned up if not replaced but
I
don't think that this should be an issue with fairly standard two bbl carbs.

After market air cleaners should be cheap and available for these.

Let me know.
