Of course, anything to reduce the resistance to air flow is a good idea. 
Fortunately, and probably by design, the flash on the cylinders tends to be  
in a line, across the top and bottom of the jug, as it sits in the engine. As  
such, this doesn't block air flow, since it acts as a 'fin' parallel to the 
air  flow. 
Also, most of the heat goes out the heads anyway. 
IMHO...

comment on deflashing between the cast iron cooling fins on  each cylinder to 
enhance cooling.

I seem to remember reading a  previous article in the Communiqué that stated 
flashing removal is  recommended, but do not recall if the cooling benefits 
were  quantified.

Has anyone performed a before and after casting flashing  removal comparison 
and realized any operating temperature  differences?
