<VV> cooling fan - new wrinkle

I have an old Communique somewhere with an article about the 10  cylinder 
Corvair engine installed in a '61-ish Impala.  The fan on that  engine was much 
larger and had what appears to be a thermostatic or rpm limiting  fan clutch in 
the center!  Fan-on-demand, now there's a concept we haven't  addressed!   
(yeah, yeah, yeah, I know the fan HP is modulated by the  damper doors, this GM 
idea nips the HP in the bud, so to speak)
