    This sounds subjective, best is measuring electric current with a clamp meter. This way you can be really sure which way uses more power. Have a clamp meter at hand but could not find wife`s vacuum cleaner !!

<<Right, Bob, and there's a very simple way to illustrate it.  Plug your shop 
vac hose into the outlet and turn it on.  Then, put your hand over the hose 
outlet and you can hear the motor speed up as the blower stalls. It's the 
same on a Corvair.
