sorry about the blank post!
it is most likely the large red wire in the trunk connector of main harness 
electrically stressed by corrosion , and uner design.  take the connector apart 
and you will see it has been warm(hot) and discolored.  clean it good or 
bypass it(if not show car) or better yet replace just the connector ends. just 
disturbing it will probaly get you home ok. it is not a big enough connector for 
the current that has to go thru it.proper way to check it? use a test light on 
both sides ...no light on body side ..connection open.
