My 1st VW was a '66 in '69...rear main bad / clutch
slipping...$400.......easy afternoon fix........but a year later.....$1500 took it away...

The next year.....guy wanted my showtime '52 Pan with twin Amal's! [ only
early Hog that started on the 1st kick....loved those "jitterbugs" ggg]

After he payed me mucho denaro.....I need a ride home........he gives me a
'60......with 80hp! [ imported German performance engine /1744 cc....big at the
time...]......yes he was a drug dealer! LOL!

Drove that car all over Canada......down to Panama......on the way back in
Lordsburg NM......lost oil........not the cooler.....but the Case had CRACKED at
the split on one side....couldn't find a welder to do Magnesium alloy......

That's when I found that a VW [ 2.7 qts on a change of oil] could hold a
Gallon!......short shift it and cruise at 50mph......would makle 50 miles before
the pressure droppped...needless to say..the starter got oiled.......and in
the morning the Motel parking lot was a pool...slippery......takes about 1 block
of pushing to get all the oil off your shoes! GGGG

Back in San Diego......got the case welded intact!.....sold it to a Sand
Duner.........then sold the car for $2500...no engine!.....

Those were the DAZE!!

/ Corvair.....content..

My "actual 1st Vair was a rusted 61 from NC........used the rear suspension
powertrain to make a 5 passenger Tandem [one behind the other] 3 Wheeler!

The rage of Pacific Beach in '70......5 of us in the seats....were able to
get it going fast enough to start!...We'd all had practice on our tricyles as
kids!!

Matt.........watching batteries in "equalization charge"...that's automatic!
   gggggg
