I got it!  It was a road race, not an oval track.  Bill E. pointed it out. 
I had just been looking at pics from Iowa when your message arrived.  My 
brain missed a cog - kind of like (Corvair Content) when the distributor is 
off by one tooth - or maybe more like when it is installed 180 degrees out 
of sync!
