I don't have the equipment to measure how bent the pushrod is, but bent is bent. It binds up as I try to push it down the alternator/filter mount. I put it in a power drill and I could see the wobble.

I think the big frustration is the amount of time wasted by these petty parts problems. Every part I buy has to be done mail-order since there are no Corvair vendors near me. One little problem can keep my van off the road for weeks.

When I rebuilt the engine, suspension, brakes, electrical etc for this van back in the '90's, I took my time and did it right. Three years passed between the day I bought it and the day I drove it out on the road for the first time. I just don't have that kind of time now. I'm trying to move away from this town next month and this is just another hurtle to get over.

I've been into the air-cooled VW scene for more than 20 years and have always lived near a VW parts shop. If I get a problem part I can go back to the place the same day and settle the problem. It's rare that I get a defective part for my Volkswagen.

Okay. I'm venting because I'm pissed off. I'm sure I'll calm down in a few days and get back to getting everything working on my van.

Charles,

How many thousandth's out are these rods? Did you check it before you
installed it or did you discover it was bent after you installed it?

As far as stepping back from Corvairs because of two bent fuel pump push
rods and a problem with a pilot bushing... dude... you should be purchasing
new cars if issues like these cause you grief. These cars are over 40 years
old... and your issues are not over yet NOR are they likely to be.
