Norm, I have a 56 Thunderbird and am on the Classic Thunderbird forum.
Quite a few T-Bird owners have had this modification done to their 
radios and I can't remember anyone posting a complaint about it. Keep in 
mind that the mid 50's radios were 9 tube with a vibrator. These also 
had features like signal seeking and automatic volume control (volume 
increased with vehicle speed) and these features made the radios even 
more unreliable.

To sum it up, T-Bird owners who drive their cars rather than showing 
them in pure stock class seem to like everything except the price and 
even that hasn't caused much grumbling.
