For a couple of years, I joined the local electric car club. I wanted to convert my 68 500PG. This was maybe 15 years ago. The project became more and more complex and the price rose past $7000 in 1990 dollars.

First the non boxy shape limited the kind of batteries, so 12 volt batteries were recommended. Then stronger springs were recommended for the added weight. Because of Corvair's lightweight power train, little or no weight would be saved. Oh yes, disc brakes were highly recommended. Added to the need to do substantial cutting/welding, the price rose to $7000+ and I gave up.

Converting to propane would have meant losing the trunk, just like electric conversion. I gave up and stayed with gasoline. -ron 65,66
