Yeah, we've got a Corvair hoarder here in Austin who has been in La-La Land, pricewise, for well over two decades. Most of we mature Vair folks simply went the Clarks/Underground/Otto parts route instead. When I was stationed at Nellis '73-'77, I used to tour the junkyards nearby in the desert, and these guys were realistic. One day I spied a heap of Vair engines/parts that was literally six feet high and thirty feet in diameter. The guy told me I could have the whole pile for $50. I ran home, rented a flatbed trailer and started loading. After multiple trips, I scored TWENTY engines plus enough other parts for a couple of centuries! Later, in conversation with a nearby junkyard owner, turns out the parts were not owned by the guy who sold 'em to me, but a deal was a deal, and the real owner, a nearby junky, didn't pursue the matter with me, at least.

I tried to talk on the phone to the well-known PHX Communique ad writer, and the conversation went somewhat like the printed ads through which Corvair folks have struggled every month for decades! There is NO way this curmudgeon would EVER deal with that curmudgeon.....
