<VV> Daughter's first car, well truck actually

A few months ago just after turning 15 my Daughter came to me with a
request for her first vehicle. She requested a small pickup, her
reasoning was that she would have enough room for all her softball gear
(she is a freshman and the starting catcher on the varsity team) and not
much room for friends. She said that she did not want to be chauffer to
her friends, so that with only one other seat she could not haul a bunch
of kids around.

This seemed like a logical request to mom and me, and so began the
quest for the perfect truck for her. Three weeks ago we found her the
perfect truck a 1997 s10 pickup, 4 cylinder, 5 speed. Now not only will
she not be able to carry any friends most of them won't bother to ask if
they can drive it. My daughter is starting to get the hang of driving
and operating the clutch. I didn't help her frustration level on her
first attempt to drive the truck, I hopped out and walked around the
truck and sat down in the passenger seat, she shifted in to first and
attempted to drive away, after 7 or 8 tries to get rolling without
stalling I realized that the parking brake was still set (Doh!). Once
the brake was released we were one our way after 2 attempts. We have
about six more months to become truly proficient before she gets her
license, so I will get to spend a lot of time trying to teach her the
finer points. If she thought getting started on flat ground was a
challenge just wait until we try the uphill start from a stop.
