<VV> Springs and things

Just wondering about opinions on some parts as I am going to rebuild the front end on the 66 shortly. I am ordering a complete kit (bushings, bolts, etc.). I have a set of used replacement springs for the car, and if I compare them to the ones I took out of the front, I see that half of the top coil was cut off and it looks like someone heated a coil on the bottom to get the spring to collapse and lower the car. Actually, I thought the car sat nice (I didn't check the body height, and I like the look of a bit lower in the front, or more correctly, a little higher in the back with bigger tires).

Anyway, I know I can cut a coil off the stock ones to lower them, but I see that the original top coil is leveled off a bit where it seats in the upper part of the cross member. Does this not matter? Does this lower the car an inch? Could I just cut 1/2 a coil? If I am this deep, should I just get the HD springs? How much will they lower the front? I am putting 14 X 6.5 inch wheels on, with 4" backspace, haven't picked tires yet, so I don't want any rubber on steel sounds coming from the front when I make a turn. Shock recommendations? (I don't want to go to high end, not into cornering hard).

Also, I see a 6 puck clutch disk that is supposed to be better than stock (after I order a multi kit and get all the parts here). Any thoughts on that compared to a regular disk (140hp, 3.55's, street driven).

Just about ready to start putting stuff back together.

Thanks to all.
