<VV> battery area question

Sam et al., the battery you need for your '65 is a 22F. Is that what New
Castle sold you? If so, the stock caps should fit perfectly.

I didn't realize that New Castle was reproducing the 22F since only the
Corvair used this size battery in the Delco line. On the other hand, they
definitely are reproducing the 24, which is the correct heavy duty battery
for a '65 (and '66) Corvair. That battery used a different style of vent
cap. It was two pieces and stood up a lot taller than the 22F's caps. I have
not checked the hole to hole spacing but it wouldn't surprise me if they
were different.

Note no "F" in the HD size (24). That means the posts are facing the other
direction. Chevy provided different (longer) battery cables when the HD
battery option was installed. I think Clark's is reproing both cable sets
now.

Then technically speaking, you had the wrong size battery. Unless you went
with the "heavy duty" size, in which case you needed the option's special
battery caps. This option had the terminals on the outboard side of the
battery, like standard cars (remember that the '65-9 Corvair uses a
'backwards' battery), and used a plate that fit under the battery hole caps
in gangs of 3, and a special vented cover that snapped onto the plate and
attached to the stock rubber vent tubes. It also came with a 6" longer
ground cable.
