HI,,
Just got back from Maui for my wife's (Sharon) 45th class reunion.
Weather was perfect. Lots of fun except for the exceedingly long travel
time. 20hrs over due. to air plane repairs. all night coming back.
Saw a beautiful frost green late Corvair coupe on the last trip to the
Maui airport. had either chrome or mag wheels and sounded like a 140 4 speed.
Any one know about this car. ?
We aren't completely broke yet, so Sharon is insisting that we go to
Portland, but we'll have to fly. Just not enough time or money to drive out.
*** Sooooo, I will enter the time trials and the autocross and join the
long line of folks doing a Seth Emerson impersonation and stand by with my
helment in my hands. Shucks, I was hoping to borrow the plain brown wrapper of Bob
Marlow's <GGG>.
I didn't get my Communique unil we returned. I was blown away by the job
that Mike McGowan and Harry Jensen did with the fragmented information that I
sent them. Many, many thanks to Rick Norris for the pictures and to Jim Rice
for the side bar article. As you might expect, now that the article is
published, more info is coming to light. glad to have it at any time though.
I've received much encouragement in this project and the final push was
having the performance Workshop to get it ready for. When everyone leans forward
a lot can be accomplished.
l also sent this article to many regional Sports cars publications, so
through competition, Corvairs are shown and introduced to the public. The SCCA
folks just love the Corvair's racing history.
Any one thinking of sending any type of Corvair article to the Communique
should not hesitate to do so. They don't have roving reporters, that just
print what you send in and improve it so much that you may not recognize it.
While I was away, Mark Gillespie arranged a huge racing car show at Crown
Hill in Indianapolis. Many old time Indy race cars and other vintage racers
and drivers were represented. Michael took the Bill Thomas Doug Roe car and
parked it next to a Turbine indy car. The Orange car was well received, except by
one Corvair owner who stated he was tired of seeing race cars at shows and in
the Communique. Why was he there? Why wasn't his car in the show? When was
his artile submitted to the Communique.? If my article can be made readable, so
can his. There was a very interesting ID plate non racing article in the
magazine.
      Thanks again, Communique crew,

Warren LeVeque
