<VV> diff carrier ?

I've just picked up what looks to be an early 3;27 ring/pinion/carrier,apart but looks all there..no case,tho...is it possible to put the nuts for late yokes in and swap it in a late case? Would  i have to put the pinion gear on the late pinion shaft? There was also 1 'washer',probably a shim, that looks like it may be pinion-to-bearing,will measure it later..Tom
