I was reading about the vlavle springs and wanting
to remove rust and stuff...

During a tech session in the CORSA MN club, Gary
nelson did a session on how to remove rust off smaller
parts like bolts...valve cover (shoot, what are these
called...the long arms that hold in on on the outside)
 and things of that nature.

What he did was, you get a good strong mason jar,
and some pieces of metal(things you don't mind getting
a little messed up permanantly...I picked some old
stainless silverware from the drawer) and add to the
jar a scoop (about 1/4" in the bottom of the jar) of
water softener salt(or if you are up north, the stuff
we use on the sidewalk) and fill with WARM water.

Get yourself a battery charger with a breaker in
it(so you don't ruin anything backing up too much
current) and connect the charge to

A) the piece to be cleaned/derusted and
B) the knife to be placed in the jar

If I'm correct, the positive goes on the piece you are
cleaning, and the neg goes on the metal for the
charge.

You place the charger on the not-to-be-cleaned metal
part and put it part way in the water and use the clip
on the charger to hold it to the side of the jar.
Submerse the piece to be cleaned in as much as you can
get the piece in.

The salt in the water reacts with the charge and the
metal, and cleans the metal VERY well.

You'll have t experiment to get this right, and I'm
sure most of you have heard of this before (maybe even
from me) but I thought I would share.

As far as I know, this does not harm the metal in any
way, it does not weaken, or mess up anything. BUT
THIS IS MY DISCLAIMER

IF ANYONE TRIES THIS AND IT DOESN"T WORK, IT"S NOT MY
FAULT IN ANY WAY.

(I felt the need to have that there.)

Have a wonderful day everyone!
