Float glass is floated on liquid tin. This process was developed by
Alastair Pilkington in 1950; it is the way most flat glass is produced 
today.  LOF is the registered trademark of Libby Owens Ford of Toledo, Ohio 
now part of the Pilkington Group, THE glass company in the world.  Since 
soda glass (window glass) is floated at 3,200 F, I would doubt that oil was 
ever used.
