I have brought home 4 Corvairs in recent history:

My daughter's Spyder was not running, brought home on
rollback.

My show / race / Sunday car was purchased locally and
driven home (approximately 2 miles) with no problems.

My project car (gradually turning into a parts car)
was driven home from Galax, VA to South Boston, VA
(about 2.5 hours). Drove down the mountain in the fog
at night with one headlight aimed out in the woods and
the other aimed up at about a 30 degree angle. Pumped
up the tires in Galax and drove it home, no problem.

My new daily driver - I drove a rental car up to
Pottstown, PA, installed seat belts, pumped up the
tires, and drove home approximately 400 miles, mostly
down I-95 at lunatic speeds. Temp-press light came on
twice during long hard runs, but a couple minutes on
the side of the road and all was well. I believe it
was mostly a false alarm (didn't seem that hot) due to
old sensors.
