Picked up the fall 1962 issue of Automobile Quarterly with a nice layout on
the three 61 sedans "Daring the Darien" Question is where are they now? Also
a
nice article on the 62 Super Spyder.

Some of the hottest selling 1/18th scale Corvette C5R models are the ones
depicting the cars as they finished the 24 Hour race at LeMans. They are "aged"
to show some wear, all the dirt muck and grit that the race adds to the
paint job is added to the model. I always wondered why nobody had done a scale
model diorama for the Convention with three early 4-doors making their way
through some scale model jungle in a re-creation of the Darien Gap adventure.
Maybe the modelers had a tough time finding the "rugged" Chevrolet 4WD supply
trucks, to add to the model caravan?

As a separate issue, Why hasn't someone re-created a full-size replica of
one of the finishing cars? Pretty much a red early 4-door driven for a few
years by a legally blind person should come close! The movie had plenty of shots
of the cars as they finished the trek through the jungle. They were kind of
beat-up by the end. So, who has a Red early 4-door that could be aged to
perfection? Any Corsa directors come to mind? - <grin>
