<VV> ramping starts but races

So far two votes for timing.  One says to far advanced, One for incorrect
timing for distributor.  I don't know what the distributor is for, used
out of the old engine probably 90 hp.  Will try a known 110 hp distributor
(have to dig it out of boxes. How should I set the static timing?  I set
#1 to TDC and put #1 plug tower on rotor.  Moved distributor slightly for
a BTDC fire.  If I advance or retard much it won't start.  (I remember
Matt posting once how to set distributor, but lost the e-mail on computor
change)

One vote for disconnect linkages at both carbs.  Will try this on next
start up.

One vote for back out idle screws.  Tried this first before posting to VV
about a half turn.  No noticible change.  Will pull idle screws and see if
tip is broken off.
