take the belt off and run it a short time. if  it smooths out check the 
pulley  on the alternator carefully for being bent. i had one that was hard to find 
like that once. the guy had rebuilt his generator on a 64 and bent the pulley 
a little removing it. he evn took the engine out looking for it. i found it 
by running the engine out of the car on the ground and taking the belt of...boy 
was he upset that it was so simple..(i must have been just lucky) i am 
assuming the engine is running smoothly?  not bad wire or plug etc?
