Schedule 40 is Schedule 40 REGARDLESS of the material the pipe and fittings
are made from.  If the Pipe passes the requirements for the Schedule, then
it'll work in that application just as well as any other material.

FWIW, PVC has been used in industrial applications for compressed air for
decades.....I've used it my shop without incident since I built it 20 years
ago!
