Is this the panel you're talking about?

If so, then I was unable to locate one new. I'm not sure if the dealers ever
stocked them since they were an internal panel.

In any case, you can see how badly the one on my car was rusted yet you
could not see any of this cancer when the fender was on the car. It's my
guess that a lot of LM Corvairs are running around with this panel in sad
shape yet there's no way to tell without removing the fender.

The project continues.

I have received a left (drivers side) front fender for the 66. I also have a
new gas pocket to go in as well. I notice on the current fender, when the
fuel door is open, there seems to be another stamped metal piece around the
fender part of the door opening. This holds the rubber stops, and does what
else I don't know.

I don't see this in the catalogs, is this piece available or do I need to
make one up?
