<VV> mystery noise, and expanding belts?

Check the pulleys for rust and roughness.  If present, the belt will wear
and appear to be streching.

Also, had a bunch of miles yesterday.  I had checked
belt tightness and tightened it up to finger tight on
the generator fan a week ago.  By the time I got done
with all the driving, it was VERY loose, and I was
amazed it didn't fall off.  I'll check the belt
against my spare for length.  Is stretching a common
failure mode?
