Had something similar, 65 convert 95hp powerglide.  Engine was idling a 
little fast and would bog down after warm up in gear.  Kept upping the idle 
so that it would not die ( would do about 15-20 foot off the brake). 
Finally figured it might be spinning just fast enough to be engaging the 
trans.  Dropped the idle down and suddenly it would idle when warmed up and 
in gear.  Might have been luck but maybe not <g>
