When I first moved West from Detroit, I wrote to my aunt and referred to  
Detroit as being in the East--her letter back said Detroit was definitely not  
Eastern. But it is definitely in the Eastern time zone and is more closely  
aligned to NYC than it is to Chicago.   
By the way, the name of the city is stressed on the second syllable--think  
of pronouncing it in French--D'Etroit.
