What's not widely known about the falls is that much of the water in the  
Niagara River is diverted through tunnels to feed the extensive power production  
in the area. This project when originally installed made the name of Nikola  
Tesla and the fortune of Westinghouse Electric. And settled, once and for all  
the future of electric power as AC rather than DC, which Thomas Edison  
favored.
