I believe the TH400 just would not fit in the '63-'67 Corvette. I think the 
issue was the tunnel over the trans being too small.
Later Corvettes ('68-'82) used a removable crossmember when they were fitted 
with the TH400 because it would have been impossible to remove the trans 
otherwise.
The chassis manual shows the removal of some side tabs on the case so that 
it would fit in these Corvettes.
