Well, we just tore down RALFWHO, my 65 Turbo/Vert, and found ourselves in dire need of a good turbo head (right side). Dropped 2 valve seats, and toasted the head. Please respond offsite with any ideas you have on getting a good serviceable part - Thanks!

I have to agree with Seth, we walked to dinned every night and found good

Can someone put me in touch with Mark Jones who had his EM coupe in
the Concours at the convention? I would like to ask him some specifics
about the wheels.

BTW, I enjoyed the Convention as much as I could without having a
Corvair there and being half blind. I chose the right hotel to stay
at just a short drive down the street. Found the Anchor Bar and had
the famous "wings". And also a couple other off the path places. I
would visit Buffalo again and I enjoyed that famous watefalls too!

I just picked up a running 102hp engine for the 63 convertible that I'm fixing
up. So far, the engine looks to be in pretty good condition, but I did notice
quite a bit of wear on one of the cam lobes, so I'm taking the whole thing
apart for an economical rebuild.

I'm trying to think of fuel economy, so I'm keeping the 3-spd/3.27 combo that
was in the car. But I've also owned a car with a 102 and 3.27 before, and I
know how terrible the low-end is. I have an 80hp cam, and I was wondering how
well this would work. I'm also considering stacking the base gaskets to lower
the compression slightly.

I'm guessing that the answer here depends on how I will use the car--which
will be for weekly driving and cruising around, no racing.

Depends how much you care about originality. Sounds about right for the OEM
battery...the group 51 or 51R (Honda) battery has more cold cranking amps
and will overcome small problems. The original type battery WILL start an
early. Last I heard the original size battery was available from NAPA.

NO RACING!?! Why bother...

>From what I know about the 80 HP cam it should improve the low end, but at
the price of the top end. You'll effectively be changing the 102 to an 80.
Lowering the compression ratio will lower the max HP even further. I run regular

gas in my 95 with no pinging but it's hooked to a PG.

Hope you can make it to the August meeting. I've done quite a bit of work to
the sedan and we'll be going for shakes and malts after the meeting.

Seeing the red Corvair trailer at Buffalo (attached to the nice matching
LM V8) resurrected my interest in building one, although not like that
one as it only had a rear hood. I liked the one that was at Portland
last year where both the front & rear hoods operated. Does anyone have
contact information for the owner of that trailer? There is also an EM
trailer that I have seen as well where both front & rear hoods operate.
I imagine the construction would be similar. If anyone has contact info
on either type, I would be appreciative. I have a rusty LM cvt that
would make a great candidate for this project.

We've got a WCC member in the process of restoring a '61 Lakewood that was
aquired as a disassembled car. It came with a gasket set of weather
stripping, window seals etc, but we can't figure out how the rear quarters
are supposed to be installed. Here is what he posted to the WCC list, but
as he is the only member on the list with a SW, he's not getting a whole lot
of help. Can anybody here shed some light on his dilema? Replay back to
me, or to "all" and I'll make sure he gets your suggestions. Much
appreciated.

Regards,
Joel
So whats the deal with Lakewood rear glass? Clarkes lists the seal as
"not available" But my lakewood came with a mystery rubber strip that is
long enough to span both rear windows on the bottom glass edge. Is this for
that window? If so what do I use on the rest of the window? Any other tips
for installing the 1/4 glass?
  Thanks

We've got yet another new member in Victoria, our second to bring an
American built Corvair to our island (but we won't hold it against him) in
the past month.

He'd like to get it through it's required safety inspection as soon as
possible, as we've got CTD looming on the horizon and he'd like to be
enjoying the car. Waiting for parts to clear customs isn't going to cut it
time wise.

Can anybody help with a part number or other vehicle to search under for a
shared LM upper and lower ball joint?

While we're at it, how 'bout a another vehicle that shared the same front
wheel cylinders as a LM 'vair?

Regards,
Joel

The original dealer neon signs appear on eBay from time to time. They
invariably go for prices that are too rich for this skinflint's blood.

Greetings all,

With all of this talk about Corvair neon signs, it has made me curious about the
one I have. I've seen quite a few of the "Corvair by Chevrolet" showroom signs
over the years, but never another like mine. My sign says "Complete Corvair
Repairs" and was meant for the service department I'd guess. It is complete and
in working order (after a few repairs). Does anyone have any more info about
this style of sign? I can shoot some pictures and email if anyone is
interested.
