<VV> valve adjustment.

Hi All'
OK, I cold adjusted the valves three quarters of a turn after removing
lash. Put a half quart of dextron in the crank case to help smooth
things out. Now, she starts, but still getting clatter on right side. I
realize I have to actually put the car on the road and run it as many of
you have said. The problem is, It is surging big time. If I set the
timing at around 16btc, it surges and backfires. If I advance it so I
cant see the timing mark anymore, I can get it to stop surging, and it
idles ok, and doesn't backfire. At this point the vacum advance is
pointing about between 3 and 4 oclock. This doesn't seem right. Is my
flamethrower coil using regular points a problem? should I go back to
the stock coil? Are the valves now too tight? Should I say screw it, and
adjust them hot?

Making progress,
Paul Abel
