And this is what I, in turn, wrote to Scott Candish:

Now that you have read my response to you, you may recall that a certain
CORSA/VV member is currently having a legal battle with the Iowa DMV over a
similar issue of certain people trying to read more into a license plate
than is actually there. My VV response was in fact a carefully worded
reference to that battle, as was my prepared response, should anybody such
as yourself object. I knew that somebody would take offense over my use of
simple letters and sure enough, you made my case for me.

Had I really wished to be crude and or vulgar, I would have written the
actual words of vulgarity, not letters and dashes. It was your own mind
that filled in those dashes with letters to create the vulgarity, so your
anger should, in fact, be directed against yourself, not me.

We have enough problems in this world without folks taking issue over the
things they imagine to be offensive. If you are so easily offended by the
use of random letters I feel very sorry for you, for I fear you will be
spending a great deal of your life being offended by what you will see
around you.

By the way, I'm sure there are some drivers on "the Highway" who get a
little nervous when they read your license plate!!!

Thank you to Jim Houston for his civil and polite reponse to my trials
installing a glovebox insert (and my advice to a fellow Corvair enthusiast
who was experiencing similar difficulites) based on my experience in
following the direction of multiple listers on the subject when I posted my
inquiry last month.
I received a rude, terse and profane personal response from a "veteran" VV
poster touting frontal installation as if I had personally insulted him by
having the timerity to suggest there may be more than one way to accomplish
this task. This type of impolite, confrontational and "My way or the
Highway" approach to problem solving is ignorant, egotistical and
counterproductive to our hobby. My first post on this forum was met with
several of these sarcastic, abusive and elitist veteran VV posters. I have
since, on the advice of the more civil and socially evolved veterans, grown
a thicker skin and will continue to both post questions and respond to
inquiries from individuals that are experiencing the same difficulties I
have if by doing so I can save them some time or money by sharing what I
have learned.
