Clark,

I used a sawzall to cut through the threaded rod after not being able to get the nut anywhere near the top of the rod's threads.  After much cursing and bleeding knuckles, I used a razor knife to cut a vertical gash in the bushing, pulled it out, then hit the rod with the sawzall.  I felt like a goof for struggling so long.  Shock dropped out in 2 seconds flat.  The old shocks were junk anyway...  I will be curious if the gurus have a better way.
