Hi Bob,

I'll give you that increasing CR and some port work might do a little to
increase torque but not much compared to the other methods I mentioned.
Changing altitude would do it too. Look at what going with larger valves,
larger intake and exhaust ports did for the stock 140HP motor in the torque
department, nothing according to GM's data.

What started me on this thread was the comparison of a 140HP motor to 110HP
motor. You mentioned that the 140HP engine puts out more torque and because
of this more horsepower. The GM data doesn't bear this out. The increased
HP is at a higher RPM. Plug the RPM and HP numbers into the equation
HP=((Torque x RPM)/5252) and the max torque is the nearly the same.

Going back to what started this thread was what engine to put in a PG FC.
In my opinion, the 140HP motor is a mistake in a PG payload vehicle. I even
think it is a mistake in a STD payload vehicle but there are some out there
running them. I'm sure some will chime in :) I didn't care for it much
when I tried it. The 140HP motor gets its extra horsepower from better
breathing at higher rpms where a PG FC or UltraVan is seldom going to live.
Some block off the secondary carbs but that does away with the main benefit
of having 140HP heads, better breathing at higher rpm. It does allow you to
step harder on the gas before dropping the port velocity though!
