Hooking the coil up backwards does no harm to the coil. It could care 
less. The spark forming at the spark plug DOES care if it is trying to 
jump to the small center electrode or jump to the larger ground 
electrode. This is why coil polarity is important. The engine will run 
either way, just not as well connected backwards.
