<VV> Bilstein shocks

Bilsteins are the best shocks ever designed for a Corvair (a late model
anyway...never used them on an early).. However, they are extremely rare
and difficult to find... Jim is correct that they give the best ride
while giving control similar to (if not better than) the highest
performing Corvair shocks (Carerra and the special Konis).

When you are using shocks designed for another application, you need to
be concerned about more than the physical fit as Bilstein uses very
specialized valving for the application. Still, I'd suggest that even a
"wrong" Bilstein would still be a vastly superior shock to the majority
of what's in use out there.

Corvairs are undersprung and underdamped in general for today's tires
(particularly if you use performance tires) and if you are running HD
springs (especially cut HD springs) then you really need a shock that
give you a lot of control... especially on rebound.

My opinion of course... several highly respected Corvair racers find
shocks to be relatively unimportant to their suspension setup... quite
the opposite of what I've found. Please let us know how you like the
Corvette bits!
