My method to date for keeping the cam, crank and lifters from rusting  
is to lubricate and then wrap them in plastic (recycling bags) with  
silicone packets (to absorb latent moisture - they come with items  
purchased which I then collect) thrown in.  Considering the history  
of my engine, I should have many more years in which to perfect this  
method.
