  Cork gaskets have the advantage of a tiny bit of give, allowing them to spring back slightly if not compressed too much when they are relatively new.
  RTV is fine if handled properly. By that, I mean coat both surfaces with a thin FILM of oil to make it easier to remove later if you have to. Also, be careful to gauge how much you put on. You need enough to do the job, but remember that it squeezes out all over. You absolutely don't want enough to form blobs that can get sucked up and pumped into the engine. Even if the oil filter stops it, it isn't good. 
  Remember that RTV stays the same shape as when it cures, so if something loosens up, it will leak. Also, it doesn't offer resistance to your torquing it down, so watch your torque closely.
